Javier de Paz García

Gerardo is the owner of a well-known restaurant in Madrid. Pilar has just opened a bakery. His son Guillermo has finished his musical percussion career and wants to study a master abroad. That's life: changes and more changes that force us to take one way or another.

Given the new family situation, Gerardo and Pilar decided to move from their house of more than 150 m2 in Madrid, to an apartment of 70 m2 that they already owned. The new plans included the complete renovation of the house, conceiving an open and very, very functional space. So functional that you're going to freak out how cute…

The apartment, located on the ground floor, has an elongated distribution and natural light can only be seen on one side. Despite being designed as a home for couples, the marriage needed two extra rooms for Guillermo's comings and goings, but also to accommodate future guests.

What was the ingenious solution? Configure all the space through a large amplified furniture. In this way, the beds, the dining room table, the chairs and desks become household objects that are stored, appear and disappear at the whim of Pilar and Gerardo.

Through two rotating furniture that function as the only walls of the apartment, except for those that separate the bathrooms from the rest of the house, the space is transformed at the whim of its owners: a traditional house with two bedrooms; a small apartment for a single couple with a bedroom; or an area of more than 50 square meters to celebrate parties and meetings with friends.

The walls rotate horizontally to create the necessary privacy in the rooms; the beds and desks unfold vertically; the dining room table extends to accommodate up to eight guests; the television is hidden and extended to be seen from various positions; the iron is stored in a drawer; and several mirrors appear and disappear with a simple click.
